ABOUT CHLOÉ
British Soprano Chloé Underwood is currently studying for a postgraduate degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Janice Chapman and Maire Vassiliou.
Chloé was recently awarded 1st place in the 2024 Guildhall English Song Prize and made her role debut of Musetta in La Bohème with Swindon Opera company in December 2023. Her recent performance in the Guildhall opera scenes saw her perform Zerlina from Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Juliet from Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet directed by Guido Martin Brandis. Chloé is looking forward to her upcoming recital at St James Piccadilly this summer.
After graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a first-class honours degree Chloé went on to perform in Hansel and Gretel with the British Youth Opera and Silent Opera company at Opera Holland Park.
Between studying Chloé performed with the Whitland Male Voice choir in Cheltenham and organized various charity concerts around the West Midlands with the Martin Schellenberg trust which she is a trustee. Chloé has taken part in various masterclasses with Susan Bullock, Susanna Stranders, and Matthew Rose.
Having been awarded a scholarship to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Chloe went on to perform the roles of; Hermia in RBC’s The Enchanted Island, Nancy(Albert Herring), Mercedes(Carmen), and covered Julia Bertrum in Mansfield Park. Whilst in her final year at RBC Chloé was selected to perform the Berlioz’s Les Nuits D’été with the Birmingham Conservatoire’s Symphony Orchestra in the Bradshaw Concert Hall in its entirety. Chloé has performed at various venues around the country giving recitals in: St Martin’s in the Bullring, All Saints church in Hertford, Malvern Priory and St Olave’s church in the City of London. Chloé competed in the 2020 Charles Wood International Song Prize and was awarded the Charles Wood Prize in Northern Ireland. Chloé was awarded 2nd Prize in the Edward Brooke’s English Song Prize in 2021 with Robin Bowman complimenting her saying, “Chloé Possesses a strong rich voice which she displays with artistic imagination and interpretative passion.”
During the pandemic Chloé’s engagements were all cancelled or postponed, as were most artistic events. She therefore decided to perform weekly concerts from her balcony at home singing an array of opera arias and songs. She gave these weekly concerts for walkers and passersby for 10 weeks during the lockdown and raised over £2000 for the Leckhampton Sue Ryder Foundation.
